Contact points are the metal probes on an electronic dog training collar that come into contact with the dog's skin. The collar delivers a small electric shock through these contact points to the dog's neck as a form of correction. The contact points are a crucial component of electronic dog training collars as they determine the effectiveness of the collar and the dog's comfort level.
The size of the contact points is an important consideration when selecting an electronic dog training collar. Dogs come in different sizes and have different coat lengths, so it's essential to choose the correct contact points that are appropriate for your dog's size and coat type. It's important to ensure that the contact points make good contact with the dog's skin for the collar to be effective.
If the contact points are too short, they may not make adequate contact with the dog's skin, reducing the effectiveness of the e-collar. On the other hand, if the contact points are too long, they may cause discomfort, redness or sores to the dog’s neck area. The length of the contact points should be such that they penetrate the dog's coat and make good contact with the skin without causing any discomfort.
All Educator Collars come standard with the short ⅝” contact points and the longer ¾” contact points and should work for most dogs with normal to longer coats. However, for super short hair dogs like Boxers and Pitbulls we recommend our ⅜” Micro contact points. For dogs with long, thick hair and double coats we recommend out Thick Hair contact points that have a small nub on the tips to get through that undercoat. We also offer 1” points for dogs with super long coats and Nickel-free points for dogs with nickel allergies. View all contact points here.
In summary, contact points are a critical component of electronic dog training collars. The size of the contact points is an important consideration when selecting an e-collar, and they must be appropriately sized to ensure the collar is effective and comfortable for the dog.
